The Board of Open Schooling and Skill Education (BOSSE), Sikkim, is a recognized open schooling board that provides flexible, inclusive, and learner-centric education. BOSSE aims to empower students, working professionals, and lifelong learners with accessible academic and skill-based programs.

With a vision to make education available "anytime, anywhere," BOSSE offers Secondary, Senior Secondary, and Skill Development programs that meet the diverse needs of learners across India. The board is committed to promoting quality education, career readiness, and lifelong learning opportunities for all. The Board of Open Schooling and Skill Education (BOSSE), Sikkim, is a recognized open schooling board designed to meet the diverse academic needs of learners up to the pre-degree level. BOSSE offers Secondary, Senior Secondary, Skill, and Vocational education through a flexible and learner-centric approach. Established under Act No. 14 of 2020 of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, BOSSE works to make quality open schooling accessible at both state and national levels.

BOSSE is officially recognized by the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), Ministry of Education, Government of India. This recognition ensures that BOSSE certificates hold the same value as those issued by other state and national boards of school education.

With its commitment to inclusivity and flexibility, BOSSE strives to strengthen open schooling and create clear pathways to higher education and career opportunities. By combining academic subjects with vocational and skill-based programs, BOSSE promotes equal access to education and empowers learners for personal and professional growth.

BOSSE – Eligibility Criteria for Admission in Secondary and Senior Secondary

  • Valid Identity Proof (Adhaar Card / Passport / Ration Card / PAN Card)
  • Valid Proof of Date of Birth (Passport / School Leaving Certificate / Transfer Certificate / Adhaar Card with DOB mentioned)
  • Valid Proof of Residence
  • Domicile Certificate for students of Sikkim
  • To complete 15 years of Age before exams for Secondary Programme.
  • Secondary / Class X Certificate in case of Senior Secondary Programme.
  • Self attested copy of Caste Certificate in case of SC / ST / OBC
  • Disability Certificate (in case a learner has any kind of disability)

a) Essential Supporting Documents for Date of Birth. Any one of the following documents is acceptable for Age Proof
  1. Birth Certificate issued by Municipal Authority or District Office of the Registrar of Birth and Deaths (for those born on or after 26.01.1989)
  2. Passport issued by Govt. of India
  3. Original Transfer / School Leaving Certificate showing applicant’s DOB, issued by the last attended school.
    Govt. Schools: signed by the principal. Private Schools: countersigned by State / District Education Officer.
  4. Aadhaar Card issued by Govt. of India
Note: Date of birth once given in the Admission Form shall not be changed. Please check and state the correct DOB in the Admission Form.
The Certificate of Matriculation / Secondary Examination having a record of the Date of Birth.
b) Minimum Education Qualifications Certificate of Class VIII pass OR Self Certificate stating that the candidate can read and write the language/s of medium. Certificate of Secondary Examination passed from a recognized National / State Board of School Education.

Examinations are conducted twice a year during April-May and October-November at the specified examination centers, for which notice is released as per the prescribed date sheet.

The examinations are held either online or at designated Examination Centres, which may or may not be Accredited Institutions.

  • Admission can be taken round the year. Admission can be taken either online (12x24x7) or at Study Centres or at Admission Centres. Those who take admission in block-1, can take their first exam in April-May; those who take admission block-2, can take their first exam in October-November.
  • The admission is valid for five years and within these five years learners get nine chances to appear in the examination to pass and earn the Secondary or Sr. Secondary certificate.
  • Credit Accumulation System is followed; the credits or marks of every subject passed are kept in record and accumulated till all subjects according to the Pass Criteria are passed.
  • To appear in the examination, candidates are required to register by filling up an examination form paying the prescribed examination fee along with the form.
  • In order to earn the certificate (Secondary or Sr. Secondary), Learners have to obtain at least 33% marks in each subject as well as at least 33% in the aggregate of 5 subjects, including at least one language. In subjects with Practicals, one has to pass with 33% marks in Theory and Practical separately. Theory includes 20% Continuous Assessment, which can be in the form of Assignments, Projects, etc.
  • Question Papers will be provided in Hindi and English language only.
  • Ex-Secondary / Sr. Secondary students of all recognized Boards of School Education who have passed in at least one subject, but have not completed the programme, may seek admission in the respective course(s) at BOSSE and avail facility of open school and skill education programme.

  • The learner has the option to avail the facility of Transfer of Credit (TOC) up to a maximum of four subjects passed from a recognized Board of School Education, provided these subjects are also available in BOSSE Scheme of Studies.

  • Transfer of credits facility is admissible only on the submission of original mark sheet of parent Board. For Transfer of Credit from other Boards to BOSSE, a learner has to pay a sum of Rs. 1000/- per subject as transfer of credit fee to BOSSE at the time of admission.

  • The compartment marksheet from parent board should not be more than 10 years old to be considered valid under TOC scheme of examination.

The facility of TOC will be permissible under the following conditions

  • The learner who has not qualified his / her course from any recognized School Boards but has passed at least one subject may avail the BOSSE’s

  • TOC facility upto maximum of four subjects. In this case, learner is required to get his / her TOC data verified from the concerned Board and he/she required to submit the same verified result/TOC data along with Admission Application Form at the time of admission under TOC.

  • The subjects which are available in BOSSE Scheme of Studies and BOSSE Scheme of Examination; learners will apply TOC to those subjects only. And for practical subjects TOC is allowed only when learner has passed in theory and practical separately.

  • The learner will have to pay requisite fee for Transfer of Credit for the number of subjects in which TOC is required.

  • The learner will have the option to get the credit from the Parent Board, provided these subjects are passed with at least 33% marks in the last ten years.

  • While applying for Transfer of Credit (TOC), the learner maybe required to send parent board failed Marksheet before examination to the BOSSE Office along with a copy of the Acknowledge Receipt/Copy of the Online Admission Form.
